Catching Bluefish at Island Beach State Park New Jersey

Surf Fishing Adventures

One of my favorite past times is fishing the surf at Island Beach State Park in New Jersey. On this particular trip, I took my second cousin Joel. It was mid-May in 2017. I had taken Joel surf fishing before, and he did catch some small Bluefish, so this wasn’t his first trip with me.

Once we got our lines in the water, it was just a matter of time before the fish were biting. We lost the first few fish because I didn’t use wire leaders, and Blues have sharp teeth. I couldn’t seem to find my wire leader material so I used some very heavy mono instead.

I caught this first fish, which was around 10 pounds. Joel caught the second one which was a little bigger than mine. He said it was the first time he ever caught a fish longer than his leg. HA HA.

It was a great day for us both. Joel enjoyed catching a big Blue, and I enjoyed seeing his excitement.
